The Employee Council consists of all FCPHD employees, overseen by four elected officers. It was created by employees when Ferry County Memorial Hospital became a public hospital district. Once the hospital went public it could not give employees perks such as Christmas parties, flowers for ill employees, retirement gifts, etc., so the employees took it upon themselves to raise money for these purposes. The Council does this by fund-raisers such as drawings, bake sales, and vending machines.
The Council also takes part in community events. In the last few years it organized the parades for Prospectors’ Days and Winterfest. It sponsors trophies for 4-H at the Ferry County Fair, and every year it buys the hospital’s long-term care residents Christmas gifts, so that everyone has something to open on Christmas morning. We have a great “family” here at FCPHD, and we all enjoy seeing them smile.
Last year the Employee Council instituted an Employee Emergency Assistance Fund to help employees with unexpected financial crises. It is totally confidential, with only the five people who sit on its board knowing details. The fund has helped a number of employees who had nowhere else to turn.
